3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheel buggy is great for rough terrain, offering the most comfortable ride for your baby. They are also more convenient to maneuver and push than a four-wheeler, especially if they have fabric slings or modular seat units that are placed snugly in the frame, offering the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.
Stability
Three-wheeled buggys are very stable, and this makes them an excellent choice for off-road walking (especially when they are equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). They often feature oversized front wheels, which can cope well with bumps and kerbs as well as rough ground. Some have a lockable wheels in the front to give you extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.
It's important to remember that 3-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled versions and, therefore, are more likely to fall over. The most reliable 3-wheeled pushchairs are designed with perfect geometry to ensure that they remain stable in any condition. They should be able of turning at a single click and be easy to steer with just one hand, and feature 360o swivelling front wheels which makes them perfect for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.
For surfaces that are extremely challenging you should look for an air-filled model also known as pneumatic tyres. These are designed to handle roads that are not paved and can deal with mud, gravel, rock etc. Many all-terrain buggies include an swivelling wheel on the front that can be locked to provide greater stability when dealing with rough terrain.
A tri-wheeled pram is a great choice for those who run and like to walk fast uphill. This is particularly true if you are planning to attach to a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It has a flat-reclining seat with five-point harnesses, and plenty of storage space to keep all your gear (plus a 50+ extendable sun hood). It is lightweight compact and safe to use from birth. It can be used with either the car seat or carrycot. It can also handle some light jogging but isn't intended for serious joggers.
Weight
If you're looking for a buggy that can handle the tough terrain, you need one with big wheels. These are designed to handle dirt, cobbles, and grass tracks with ease and still provide an enjoyable ride. They're also ideal for jogging because they're equipped with suspension and are simple to move up and down kerbs. However, the downside is that they can be quite heavy to push.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy is very mobile due to its 16 rear wheels as well as the front wheel can be locked. It comes with air tyres that require occasional pumping and can hold children up to the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler enjoyed the shape of the seat and found it easy to steer with her 3-year-old son on the seat.
The Baby Jogger Versa GT is an alternative that is also a great choice. It comes with a movable handlebar, a hood made of high-end materials that provides 50+ UV protection, and an extremely high-quality hood. It is also easy to move kerbs up and down and fits in a small car boot. It can also be used as a stroller and baby carriers or toddlers.
3 wheeled pushchair are positioned inside the frame and not on top as modular seats. This design has an lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you cannot think about how often you'll be doing that as new parents!)
Seating
The seating capacity of 3 wheelers is impressive, and there are a number of different choices to choose from. For babies it is possible to use the included carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a comfortable and cozy lie flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy), while older babies and toddlers can be seated in the world-facing or parent facing seat that is spacious and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. The seats do not recline completely, but can be adjusted to the lowest point. This should still allow your child to have plenty of space and headroom.
A fabric sling is also available. It's a benefit that it is positioned inside the frame, instead of on top as a seat that is modular. This results in a lower centre of gravity with perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier and lighter to push especially over bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath loved the way this kind of seat negotiated these obstacles.

This type of buggy comes with an enormous basket, along with other useful features like an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal and a few innovative lights for visibility that can be placed on the front of the passengers for improved safety on difficult terrain.
If you're seeking a buggy that will grow along with your family, the sport(tm) is a world first, can accommodate the newborn, and later be modified to fit three or more children as they grow, all in one footprint.
Stores
The 3-wheeled frame is more sturdy and can be moved with just one hand. It's also ideal for terrain that is difficult. However, it does mean that the shopping basket can't hold the same amount as a 4-wheeled buggy.
A good quality ATP will have a top suspension, pneumatic tyres, and an ergonomic handle that is cushioned to ensure your ease. It is also equipped to carry a carrycot and car seat so you can use it from the time you are born.
MFM's reviewers found that the 3-wheeler frame didn't fit through their home doors or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure to check out the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded prior to purchasing.
It's worth looking into an SUV with three wheels that can fit 2 (or even 3!) seats when your family grows - these are the most efficient of both and will help you save money in the future. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the most popular that can be used as a single seat from day dot, and then transforms into twin buggies once your baby begins walking.
Tyres
These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's journey more comfortable. You'll find these on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath discovered to provide "an exceptional ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tires of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it simple for her to navigate kerbs and other obstacles.
They can be difficult to maintain and will require air pressure topped up regularly. They are also more vulnerable to punctures than foam tyres. So you'll need to ensure that you have repair kits, spare inner tube and pump in case you go traveling with your buggy.
PU tyres can be found on a lot more pushchairs than air-filled tyres but they are still just as robust. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide across flat and tidy surfaces.
If you move your hand over the tyres, then you can tell if they're PU or rubber. If it feels like it's moving, then it's a rubber tyre, which is a. You can also confirm that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres on a clean, flat surface They'll be able to roll easily and fit snugly into their wheel hubs.
3 wheeled pushchair are able to withstand the rough terrain of high-performance buggies. The drawback is that the foam can expand and cause your buggy to appear less stable as it loses its springy quality. The tyres can also be noisy because they generate lots of noise when you turn and drive around the town.
